Greaves

Persian and Arabic manuscripts collected by Thomas and John Greaves, purchased by the Bodleian in 1678.

Thomas Greaves (1612-1676) was a fellow of Corpus Christi College, Oxford and became 'deputy professor of the Arabic lecture in the absence of Mr. Edward Pocock' in 1637. He took his BD in 1641 and DD in 1661, and held a succession of country rectories.

The collection of 65 manuscripts and printed books, chiefly oriental, was purchased by the Library in 1678, but not all of it arrived.
