Political Prints from the Curzon Collection

The political cartoons in this collection are mostly from the collection of Alexander Meyrick Broadley (1847-1916).  George Nathaniel Curzon, Marquess Curzon of Kedleston (1859-1925) bought the extra-illustrated volumes of A.M. Broadley's Napoleon in Caricature (1911), J.H.Rose's The Life of Napoleon I (1901) , and Lord Rosebery's Napoleon, the last phase (1900), at the sale of Broadley's library in 1916. At that time he was Chancellor of Oxford University, and his bequest of Napoleon-related books and prints, including the political cartoons, came to the library in 1926.

More than 800 cartoons have been digitized and include works by a host of British caricaturists, including James Gilray, Thomas Rowlandson, Isaac and George Cruikshank, William Heath, Charles Williams and George Woodward.
