After a successful career in business, Bern Schwartz (1914-1978) established himself as a leading portrait photographer of the late 1970s. His sitters included influential cultural and political figures in the United Kingdom, Israel, and the United States.

Bern and his wife, Ronny, worked as a team throughout his photographic career. Ronny was instrumental in preparing for sessions with sitters, and also assumed a curatorial role in organising Bern's work.
