Two albums containing botanical paintings by various artists, commissioned by Mary Somerset, the first Duchess of Beaufort (1630-1715).
The first album title page states that the paintings were done of plants 'from the Life growing' by the Dutch artist Everard Kick (1636-?), who came to Badminton on 21st July 1703 and 'staid there till the 14th of July 1705'. The title page to the second album states that the paintings therein were 'drawn by Daniel Frankcom [dates unknown] a Servant of My Lady Dutchess of Beaufort's from the naturall Plants growing at Badminton & Chelsea'.
There are also several other paintings in this album by other artists, including Henrietta London (1684 - 1754), daughter of famed gardener and nurseryman George London (1640-1714), and 'Mrs Rawdon', who is likely Helen (née Graham) Rawdon (1662-1709), the wife of the Irish botanist Arthur Rawdon (1662-1695). Other paintings in the album are likely by Elezar Albin (1690-1742), and there are 16 reproductions of images from Maria Sibylla Merian's Metamorphosis of the Insects of Suriname (1705), which were likely made by Henrietta London.
